B1006 - SOLDThis is a superb very long tablecloth and matching set of 18 antique French pure linen damask napkins dating from the 19th C. Both the tablecloth and napkins are finely hand embroidered with the monogram A S. The tablecloth is very long - over 4 metres (13 feet) and must have graced a very impressive château table. The linen damask has a snowflake design. There are two monograms on the tablecloth, one towards each end, and each measuring approx. 9 cm (3.5 inches) high. The monograms are hand embroidered with raised satin stitch and have little berries delicately entwined at the base of each of the letters. In scale with the tablecloth, the napkins are also huge. The monogram is cental to each napkin and measures approx. 7 cm (2.75 inches). We have left the tablecloth and napkins as we found them, clean and fresh. One of the monograms on the tablecloth is very slightly darker than the other. There is a little colour variation between the napkins. Possibly, as there are so many of them they may have been laundered at different times during their long lives. The tablecloth measures :- 416 cm (13 ft 7.75 inches) long x 176 cm (5 ft 9.25 inches) wide. A rare opportunity to buy such a large tablecloth with so many matching napkins and another superb antique textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
