B1271 - SOLDThis is a divine antique French wax bust dating from the early 1900's. It is in the style of Jean Antoine Houdon and is very charming. It is the largest example of it's type that I have seen. The subject is a very pretty young mademoiselle. She has beautiful wavy hair styled in a chignon and held up with a bandana. She has sweet, child like features with an adorable air of innocence. The wax is finely moulded and has a pale almost translucent creamy hue. The bust sits upon a beautiful plinth with lovely graining to the wood. Both the bust and it's plinth have survived the years in good condition. There are some very tiny sepia spots to the wax and the varnish on the plinth has dulled a little over the years but these do not detract from the beauty of the bust in any way. The bust on it's plinth measures 38 cm (15 inches) high x 20 cm (8 inches) wide x 11 cm (4.25 inches) deep. The plinth is 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) high. A gorgeous bust to enhance any period display and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
