This is a fabulous set of 4 long antique French lace curtains from the 19th Century. They are very regal and of superb quality. They would be perfect to add a chateau chic finishing touch to a double aspect room.
They each have a central panel with magnificent lions rampant surrounded by a floral border. To each of the bottom corners is a fantastic dragon. The sides and bottom are scalloped. They are antique white in colour.
The lace textile is incredibly crisp and of superb quality. We have left the curtains as we found them. It is our belief that they have had little or no use during their lifetime but have been stored for a long time. During this time they have acquired some storage marks (please see photos) where they have been folded. These blend in to the design when the curtains are hung against the light but of course the curtains could be laundered. Each of the 2 outer curtains have a little damage (about 6 cm long) about two thirds down on the right hand edge and there are a few areas where the drawn threads have come adrift. These could be darned or left as they are, as frankly they do not draw the eye or detract from the design and appearance of these amazing antique curtains.
We have hung the curtains from clips (not included). There is a ribbon at the top of each curtain to which hooks or antique curtain rings can be sewn.
The curtains look lovely just hanging ready to flutter in the breeze or as we have photographed them, gently draped back with curtain hold backs (not included).
The right hand pair of curtains measures :- 224 cm (7 ft 4.25 inches) long x 70 cm (2 ft 3.5 inches) wide. The pair on the left are 6 cm (2.3 inches) shorter.
A divine set of antique French lace curtains to transform a room. They are from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles and decorative pieces at La Belle Étoffe.
