B1429 - SOLD

This is a superb antique French religious altar dating from the 1800's. It is cast in  brass and is very decorative and architectural. It would be perfect for a special niche.

The altar has a central spire with a cross and to either side of this is a steeple. There is a beautiful scroll and shell to the base. The attention to detail is astonishing - see the gladiators and the dove of peace.

To the centre of the altar is a gilded crucifix with the body of Christ. Sitting at his feet are two beautiful cherubs.

When we turn the piece over we see that there is a fitting to the base and that it was once probably attached to something, possibly a staff. There is a loop for hanging on a wall.

The altar measures :- 20.5 cm (8 inches) high x 7.75 cm (3 inches) wide.

This is a fabulous religious piece to display and use and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
