B1449 - SOLDThis is a sublime antique French jewel / boudoir box dating from the Napoleon III era C 1860. It would be perfect to take a few precious letters or keepsakes in a château chic boudoir. The box is covered in it's original red silk velvet now timeworn to perfection. The original fantastic pile and vibrant colour of the textile can be seen on the back of the box. The front two corners of the lid have silvered metal appliqués and in the centre is a decorative handle. There is a cute little clasp. At some stage during it's life (160 years or so) the box has been beautifully restored. It would seem from the materials used that this may have been between 1930 and 1950. When we lift the lid up we see that the box has a sublime dusky pink, smooth silk satin lining. This would have formed part of the restoration and replaced the original padded silk. The bottom of the box also formed part of the restoration and has remained in perfect condition. There are 4 cute metal feet. The box measures :- 21 cm (8.25 inches) wide x 14.5 cm (5.75 inches) deep x 8 cm (3.1 inches) high. A very old and beautiful box, lovingly restored to use and enjoy and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe. Please note that the items photographed in the box are not included.
