B1456 - SOLDThis is a divine antique French Virgin Mary statue dating from the early 1900's. It is made from coppered spelter and is very decorative and architectural. It would originally have been bought as a souvenir from Lourdes. Mary stands on an ecclesiastical architectural base intricately decorated to all four sides with religious scenes of Lourdes. The quality to the casting to the metal is such that the scenes can be seen in great detail. See Mary appearing to Bernadette Soubirous in the grotto, and the Rosary Basilica. Mary stands with her hands held in prayer. Her mantle and robe fall in gentle folds, her rosary hangs from her arm. The statue is made in spelter and was originally coppered. The copper has mellowed and patinated over the years to perfection and there are even areas of verdigris to complete the stunning atmospheric antique finish. It measures :- 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) high x 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide x 5.5 cm (2.25 inches) deep. This is a fabulous religious piece to display and use and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
