B1458 - SOLDThis is a superb antique French wax statue of two adorable children dating from about 1920. The subject matter is absolutely charming and the piece is large and impressive. The children are a sweet little girl and boy. The boy is a little taller than the girl and could be her brother. The little girl looks very sad and the little boy is gently comforting her. Both children have lovely wavy hair. The boy wears a waistcoat and his long shorts look cute with his laced boots. The girl's pinafore floats around her. She has sweet ankle strap shoes and a bow in her hair. Each child holds an apple. Behind the children is a wonderful old tree stump. In fact the back of the statue is as attractive as the front. The statue would be perfect positioned in the middle of a room to be viewed from all sides. The attention to detail is amazing. The wax is finely moulded and has a creamy hue with contrasting sepia tones. The bust is attached to a substantial wooden plinth with rich colour and graining. The statue and it's plinth have survived the years in excellent antique condition. It measures :- 39 cm (15.3 inches) high x 21.5 cm (8.5 inches) wide x approx. 14.5 cm (5.75 inches) deep. A gorgeous statue to enhance any period display and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe! We have used a bottle of wine (not included) to give a sense of scale.
