B1570 - SOLDThis is a superb pair of antique French plaster busts / bookends dating from the early 1900's. They would certainly add an atmospheric finishing touch to a study or library. The busts are a boy and a girl. They are both hard at work at their homework. Each has a metal plate to the front of the base. The girl is entitled 'LE DEVOIR' and the boy 'APPLICATION'. Both the boy and girl have beautiful wavy hair and fine facial features, they could be brother and sister. The boy is formally dressed for his studies with a shirt, tie and jacket but the girl wears a dress which gently slips from her shoulders. They are painted in lovely detail and are both dressed in a gorgeous antique green which looks superb against the dark brown plinths. The busts are in good antique condition. There is a little patination and distressing to the paint (please see photos) but they are sublime just as they are. The girl measures :- 20 cm (8 inches) high x 13.5 cm (5.25 inches) wide x 10 cm (4 inches) deep. A beautiful pair of busts / bookends to add an authentic antique French finishing touch and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
