B1584 - SOLDThis gorgeous antique invitation holder would have been the ultimate boudoir accessory for a 19th Century French socialite. It would now be perfect for holding a few treasured letters, photos and of course invitations, perhaps on a mantelpiece. It is made in wood in the form of a folding screen with a shaped top and feet to the base. The exterior is padded and is covered in a sublime silk brocade with a peach background and floral vignettes. The edges are trimmed with a beautiful gold wire passementerie. The screen opens up to reveal a silk lined interior with the most exquisite delicate rosebud, tendril and bow print - just divine! Each side of the interior has 3 pockets to take invitations, photos, love letters etc. These edges are also trimmed with a sublime gold wire passementerie which still catches the light beautifully. Considering the delicacy of this amazing confection it has survived the years in good antique condition. There is a little darkening of the textile in places and a couple of minor areas of wear to the interior (please see photos) but it is gorgeous just as it is. When folded it measures :- 48 cm (18.9 inches) high x 26.5 cm (10.4 inches) wide x 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep. A rare antique French boudoir accessory to use and enjoy and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe. N.B. The accessories are for display only.
