B1701 - SOLDThis is a fabulous antique French repoussé cushion mirror dating from the 1800's. It would certainly add a château chic finishing touch to an interior. It is in the Rococo style and is very decorative. The crest has a mirrored background with extensive scrolls and curling acanthus leaves. To the centre is a fruit filled urn with an oak leaf crown. The repoussé work of the frame has been perfectly executed to give us a very decorative piece. The corners are in the shape of a shell and join the inner frame to the outer frame. The gilding on the repoussé has patinated and mellowed over the years to a gorgeous old gold hue. The central mirror plate is bevelled. This and the mirror plates to the sides of the 'cushion' have some foxing which adds character to this lovely old mirror. The mirror is in excellent sturdy condition. There is just a tiny piece of repoussé missing from the left hand shoulder (please see photos) and one or two worm holes. It has 3 hooks on the back for hanging. It measures :- 58 cm (22.75 inches) high x 32 cm (12.5 inches) wide x 4 cm (1.5 inches) deep. A beautiful mirror for a special niche and another superb brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
