B381 - SOLDDating from the late 1800's this divine antique French stand would have originally been displayed below a glass dome as part of the traditional marriage display and would have held the bride's head dress. The dome has long gone and this superb period piece would now make a fabulous display stand for jewellery in a château boudoir interior or perhaps a shop window. This is a marriage stand that has everything and would have been from a very wealthy family. The front of the stand is covered in rich sumptuous red velvet and stands on two delightful curly feet. It is positively festooned with wax bud garlands in the style of the bride's head dress. A gilded toleware mount with a central crest and flower and leaf garlands complete the ensemble. On top of the stand is the plump silk cushion that would have held the head dress. It is padded and buttoned with tiny silk buttons and has a gorgeous frill around the edge. The silk would have originally been red to match the velvet but it has now faded to a lovely old tea rose. One of the original pins used to secure the head dress is still in place and I have left it as I found it. The underside of the cushion is draped with gorgeous silk and is caught at the front with a delicious full bow. The silk has faded to timeworn perfection but as with all the textile on the stand is in good condition with no wear. The back of the stand is supported by two curly wire legs which are sturdy. This exceptional stand measures 25 cm (9.75 inches) high x 32 cm (12.5 inches) wide x 27 cm (10.5 inches) deep. A gorgeous timeworn treasure to add faded grandeur to any château chic boudoir. This beautiful stand can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset. Please hover cursor over picture for magnified detail and click on picture for enlarged photos. Please Note - The bridal couronne photographed with the stand is not included. SOLD
