B765 - SOLDThis is a sublime antique French Richelieu lace curtain or panel dating from the early 1900's. It is hand worked in fantastic detail in fine linen in a lovely shade of antique cream. The linen has good weight and the whole piece drapes beautifully. The linen is divided into 6 panels by bands of gorgeous drawn threadwork lace. Within each panel is the most fabulous scene worked in cut out Richelieu lace work. The dominant theme is gorgeous winged cherubic angels. In the central top panel 2 cherubs sit back to back in what appears to be a fountain from which a profusion of flowers and garlands tumble. To either side a cherub sits clutching a single flower tendril which weaves it's way up the panel. It is in the central bottom panel however where the cherubs are having the most fun. They are dancing among a plethora of beautiful full blown roses and leaves. The curtain has a fine lace trim to either side and a scalloped lace trim to the bottom. The work is exquisite and the design breathtaking. The curtain is in excellent condition with just a little age spotting at the bottom left hand corner of the central panel. It measures :- W 135 cm (4 ft 5 inches) x H 140 cm (4 ft 7 inches) A divine curtain / panel to add an authentic antique French finishing touch and another superb brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
