B886 - SOLDThis is a spectacular antique French tapestry château curtain / wall hanging / portière dating from the late 1800's / early 1900's. It is a feast for the eyes and would add an authentic touch of grandeur to a room. The tapestry is woven in linen and is very crisp and fresh. The design and colours are fabulous. The portière has a gorgeous fruit and flower border. The central panel is dominated by a magnificent tree beneath which two mythical birds (one a griffin) spar. In the background beautiful countryside can be seen. The colours are a fabulous palette of greens, tawny browns and neutrals and would sit well in both a country or town house interior. The portière is lined and as well as looking divine would be ideal for keeping the draughts out. It is in excellent antique condition. I can find just one area of minor wear at the left hand edge. This blends into the design and does not draw the eye. The lining has darkened a little with the sun and the passage of time. It is intact and in our opinion does not need replacing. We have used spring clips & rings (not included) to hang the curtain but a header tape could be sewn on if required. The curtain measures:- 289 cm (9 ft 6 inches) long x 122 cm (4 ft) wide. This is a fabulous portière / curtain / wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to the grandest of homes. Another divine period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe. N.B. We also have a PAIR of curtains in this design listed in our other items. They came from the same château as this one but they have a greener hue.
