B1623 - SOLD

Dating from the Napoleon III period (C 1860) this gorgeous antique French stand would have originally been displayed below a glass dome as part of the traditional marriage display.

The dome has long gone and this superb period piece would now make a fabulous decorative piece or a display stand for jewellery perhaps in a château chic boudoir. or a shop window.

The focal point of the stand is the plump blue padded velvet cushion upon which the original wedding couronne & corsage would have sat. The cushion sits in a fabulous toleware swag and tassel crown. It is supported by 4 central wire feet with 2 further wire supports at the back.

The cushion has the word 'Bonheur' ('Happiness') below it. There are 3 mirrors above the cushion and one below it. A profusion of gilded toleware flowers, leaves, swags and swirls surround the mirrors. A stunning toleware hirondelle with a flower garland wreath in it's beak forms the crest. There is a further hirondelle to either side each ridden by a charming little cupid - just incredible!

The marriage stand has survived the years in very good antique condition. The blue velvet textile has no fading or wear. There is a little patina and verdigris to the toleware but the overall effect remains bright and beautiful.

The stand measures:- 49.5 cm (19.5 inches) high x 25 cm (9.75 inches) wide x 18 cm (7 inches) deep.

A gorgeous treasure to add grandeur to a chateau chic boudoir or display and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
