This divine antique French porcelain doll sitting on a sofa is in fact a chocolate box! It dates from about 1920 and would have been given as a gift filled with chocolates or bon bons. It would now be perfect for a château chic boudoir perhaps holding a few special trinkets.

The doll is elegantly seated on an amazing high backed sofa covered in a velvet textile now faded to an atmospheric shade of antique burgundy and trimmed with wire passementerie. Her demeanour is somewhat coquettish. She pats her Regency hairstyle and waggles her slim legs and feet - probably to show off her beautiful golden slippers!

She is beautifully dressed in her original coral pink gown trimmed with delicate mauve passementerie and tiny lime green beads. She wears a corsage at her chest.

The sofa sits on 4 little ball feet. The whole of the sofa including the ensconced lady lifts up to reveal the card chocolate box beneath - just amazing!

The doll and her sofa have survived the years in excellent antique condition. Please see all the photos.

It measures :- 17 cm (6.75 inches) high x 18.5 cm (7.25 inches) wide x 10 cm (4 inches) deep.
