B506 - SOLD

This is a fantastic antique French lacemakers pillow dating from the 1800's. It could be returned to it's original use or it would make a fabulous plinth from which to display jewellery.

The pillow is made from mahogany and is covered in a divine purple velvet now faded with the passage of time.

At the back of the mahogany base is a large drawer to take bobbins and at the side is a smaller secondary drawer to take cotton, linen etc. The pillow came to us with 59 bobbins and we have left them in the drawers.

The purple velvet is of the highest quality and is very soft and smooth to the touch. It has faded to to a fabulous shade of aubergine. The edges must have originally been bound with passementerie. This has now gone leaving a glimpse of the original rich purple of the velvet.

The pillow is in good condition and is sturdy.

It measures :- 61 cm (24 inches) wide x 48 cm (19 inches) deep x 21 cm (8.25 inches) high.

An unusual and interesting piece of textile history and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
