B2032 - Gorgeous Large Vintage French Woven Tapestry Wall Hanging, Chateau de Chambord

This is a gorgeous vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating around 1980.  It is of excellent size and depicts the fabulous Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley. The original tapestry was woven in the second half of the 17th Century at the Gobelins manufactory in Paris for King Louis XIV. This reproduction is woven in amazing detail and is a feast for the eyes. It would create a fantastic focal point in a room.

The Château is depicted in a country landscape which is framed by a sumptuous architectural motif: a colonnaded portico garlanded with flowers. Below the chateau, a carriage rides through the wooded countryside surrounding the palace. In the foreground on a balustrade are displayed a golden vase and fruits, together with a rich claret drape and cello, thus combining the elements of nature with symbols of a sophisticated civilization. The balustrade serves the purpose of creating a unique sense of perspective to the whole design.

Around all this splendour is a beautiful scrolled and floral border.

The tapestry is of excellent quality. It is tightly woven in cotton and is lined.

It is in good vintage condition. I can find just one or two tiny blemishes in the weave (please see photos).

The tapestry measures :- 190 cm (6 ft 2.8 inches) wide x 145 cm (4ft 9 inches) high.

An exceptional antique tapestry to add a dramatic finishing touch to a room and another divine French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.

N.B. The clips we have used to display the tapestry are not included.
