This is a beautiful antique French wedding cushion & it's original stand dating from the Napoleon III era, circa 1860. It would have been used to display the bride's wedding couronne. It would now be superb for displaying jewellery, perhaps in a shop window or a boudoir. It would also be perfect for carrying the rings at a modern day marriage ceremony.

The cushion is filled with horsehair and is very full and plumptious. It is covered with a divine teal / turquoise coloured silk velvet. The corners and edges of the cushion are trimmed with sumptuous metallic braids and tassels. These would once have been bright and shiny but have now faded with the passage of time to a dark atmospheric hue. The velvet on the top of the cushion has some wear from years of use for hat pins (which we have left in).

When we turn the cushion over we see a few glints of light from the braid and that here the velvet has it's original fabulous peacock hue where it has not been exposed to the light.

The cushion sits on a toleware stand which is attached to an ebonised wooden plinth. To the front of the stand is a bevelled oval mirror above which is a toleware crest with 2 little love birds. To either side of this is a toleware leaf below which is a bunch of grapes. A toleware flower garland completes the charming ensemble.

The plinth sits on 4 feet. It is a little timeworn as one would expect but is sturdy.

The cushion measures:- 21 cm (8.25 inches) square x 14 cm (5.5 inches) deep.

The stand measures :- 32.5 cm (12.75 inches) deep x 33 cm (13 inches) wide x 10 cm (4 inches) high approx.
