B1142 - Beautiful Antique French Hand Painted Silk Baby Coverlet, Ribbon, Bow & Flowers

This delicate confection is a divine hand painted silk baby coverlet dating from the 19th Century. It would have been made and painted by a doting relative and given as a gift at the birth of the baby. It would now also make a lovely antique gift for a baby but would also look superb draped across the back of a chair, perhaps in a boudoir.

The top of it is made in a gorgeous sumptuous silk in antique white & it is upon this that the design has been painted. At the top there is a beautiful bow from which ribbon tails meander and loop around the perimeter. They are delicately entwined with tendrils of tiny flowers and the effect is breathtaking. The ribbon is in gorgeous shades of lilac & pink and the flowers are in shades of pink, blue and purple. Tucked in a loop of the ribbon are the initials A.D.

Around the edge of the cover is a tulle frill in antique cream. The cover is slightly padded. When we turn it over we see that it is lined with the most gorgeous shell pink silk.

The cover is in good antique condition. The paint has run a little in the top left hand corner of the design and there is a faint mark on the pink lining but nothing to detract from this gorgeous piece.

It measures :- 64 cm (25.25 inches) high x 48.5 cm (19 inches) wide not including the frill. The frill measures 7.5 cm (3 inches).
