This is an amazing antique French gilded wood picture frame dating from the 19th Century. It would have originally held an ecclesiastical picture / painting possibly in a church. It would now make a truly unique setting for a special picture.

The wood of the frame is embossed with a leaf and tendril design and the gilding has mellowed and distressed to perfection over the years. The frame is decorated with the most gorgeous paste cabochons in rich jewel colours and it is these that set this frame apart from others.

Despite it's timeworn appearance the frame is sturdy. The cabochons are secure with just one very small chip to the blue stone in the top left hand corner. Please see photos.

The frame measures :- 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) x 35 cm (13.75 inches)
The aperture measures :- 19.25 cm (7.5 inches) x 27.5 cm (10.75 inches).
