B1200 - SOLD

This is a fantastic antique French gilded brass picture frame dating from the 19th Century. It would have originally come from a church and could now be incorporated into an interiors project as an architectural feature. It would be superb fitted with a piece of old mirrored glass or could perhaps form the focal point on a mantel piece. We also have a pair of smaller frames like this (B1201) listed in our other items. which would look superb displayed to either side of this one, see photos.

The frame is made of brass and is a weighty piece (nearly 3kg). It is fashioned to look like the outside of a church or cathedral. There is a central cross crest  and to either side is a spire. On each side of the frame is a winged angel adorned in a robe. The frame is absolutely covered in architectural church detail and is fabulous!

On the back of the frame are 4 fittings to hold it's contents but originally there would have been 6. The gilding on the brass has mellowed over the years to a dramatic dark hue.

The frame is sturdy. The central cross is slighty twisted but is firm and does not detract from the aesthetics of this lovely piece.

The frame measures :- 49 cm (19.25 inches) wide x 49.5 cm (19.5 inches) high.
The display aperture is :- 38 cm (15 inches) wide x 20.5 cm (8.1 inches) high at it's  max.

This is a stunningly unique frame for a special niche. It is from a collection of carefully selected antique and vintage French decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'!

N.B. The print in the frame is for display purposes and is not included.
