B1498 - SOLD

This is an amazing pair of antique French church lanterns dating from the 19th Century. They are highly decorative and will look stunning when lit with candles.

They are made of fine gauge repoussé brass and are globe shaped. The brass is pierced with star shapes and decorative perforations to let the light out. If you look very carefully you will see that the pattern of the perforations differs on each globe.

As if this wasn't enough, each globe is adorned with 7 huge thick glass cabochons, approx. 3 cm (1.25 inches) in diameter, in stunning jewel shades of  green, turquoise, red, amber and clear.

Each lantern hangs on 3 chains.

We have left the lanterns as we found them. The brass has patinated to perfection over the years but would polish to a shiny finish if required. The lanterns are sturdy and are in good antique condition. The brass on one of the lanterns has cracked a little (please see photos) but this does not affect it's usability or capability to hold a candle.

The brass globes are approximately 15.5 cm (6 inches) in diameter. When hung from their chains they are approx. 30 cm (11.75 inches) high.

A stunningly unique pair of old lanterns to add an architectural feature to a room. They are from a collection of carefully selected antique and vintage French decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'!
