B1688 - SOLD

This is a fantastic antique French gesso on wood picture frame dating from the 19th Century. It has distressed to perfection over the years. The gilding has worn, the plaster has chipped and cracked but it is just GORGEOUS as it is!

The frame is rectangular in shape and has a decorative raised border with a rose design. The aperture has decorative beading and is bordered with water gilding which catches the light beautifully.

We have left the frame as we found it. As well as the distressing there are even areas of verdigris. The effect is breathtaking and could not be replicated. As it stands the frame is certainly a decorator's piece but it is of very good quality and could also be restored if required.

When we turn the frame over we can see that it is of very solid 19th Century construction and that it has good weight. There has been a little worm over the years. There are two metal loops for hanging on a wall.

The frame measures :- 52 cm (20.5 inches) wide x 34.25 cm (13.5 inches) high.
The aperture measures :- 34.25 cm (13.5 inches) wide x 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) high.

An exceptional frame to add a château chic finishing touch to a picture or to just display and enjoy for it's fantastic architectural looks. Another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
