B341 - SOLD

Dating from the late 1800's this divine antique French stand would have originally been displayed below a glass dome as part of the traditional marriage display and would probably have held the bride's head dress.

The dome has long gone and this superb period piece would now make a fabulous display stand for jewellery in a château boudoir interior or perhaps a shop window.

The plump red velvet cushion is padded and buttoned and forms the back of the stand. Around it is a wire frame entwined with gilded toleware flowers and leaves and crowned with a bird with a laurel leaf wreath. The bird symbolises love and the wreath the nesting or home making to come.

Beneath the cushion is a bevelled mirror which signifies the length of time the couple knew each other before marrying.

The marriage stand has 4 wire legs which attach to a gorgeous ebonised wood base with 3 sturdy wooden feet. The jewellery would look equally fabulous against the luxuriant velvet or on the black wood.

The stand has survived the years with a little worm to the base and a weeny bit of  wear to the velvet but this all adds to it's timeworn charm.

The stand measures:- 32 cm (12.5 inches) wide x 19 cm (7.5 inches) deep x 41 cm (16 inches) high.
A gorgeous timeworn treasure to add faded grandeur to any chateau chic boudoir.

Another divine antique french find from La Belle Étoffe!
