B1380 - Fantastic Antique Italian Glass Mirror With Fairies / Cherubs / Angels, 19th Century

This is a fantastic and unusual antique Italian glass mirror adorned with cherubs and fairies and dating from the 19th Century.

The whole of the front of the mirror is glass, the central oval is mirrored and the decorative border is fired on to the back of the glass.

The frame of the mirror is white and is decorated with sublime scenes in gorgeous shades of blue.

The scenes are full of romantic Italian neoclassical imagery . Here we have heavenly blue skies with soaring birds, beautiful maidens, flower garlands, musical instruments and of course a host of cherubs and fairies.

At the crest of the mirror is a beautiful damsel swathed in billowing fabric and draped with a flower garland. Above and around her three cherubic fairies with butterfly wings hover and above them the birds soar.

Beneath this are two further charming scenes with chubby cherubs playing musical instruments and writing on a scroll.

At the base of the mirror further voluptuous maidens play their musical instruments surrounded by their cherub entourage.

The mirror has a substantial  mahogany back. It has a stand that has a slot to take it should the mirror be hung on a wall by the two loops.

The condition of the mirror is good. It has a few nibbles to the edge of the glass fascia and one of the four glass studs is missing but this does not detract.

It measures :- H 44 cm (17.25 inches) X W 29.5 cm (11.75 inches).

This is a fabulous mirror to add a romantic château chic touch to a boudoir.
