B1423 - SOLD

This is an exquisite antique French boudoir doll adorning a bon bon box. It dates from around 1920 and would have been given as a gift to celebrate a first communion.

The doll has a beautiful face with big brown eyes and fluttery eyelashes. She has pink cheeks and cupid's bow red lips. Her hair is made from silk and is styled in ringlets. Her hands are made of bisque.

She wears a gorgeous cream organza gown and matching cape. Around her waist is a silk sash from which hangs a mother of pearl rosary. Around her neck is a tiny medallion with a putti cherub, after Raphael, on one side and a fleur de lys on the other. The attention to detail is astonishing!

All this sits on a cylindrical cardboard box which would have originally have held the bon bons.

The doll and her box have survived the years in excellent antique condition. There are a few age spots to the lace trim and hood of the cape (please see photos).

She stands 31 cm (12.25 inches) tall.

A rare and unusual antique French boudoir doll to perhaps add to a collection and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
