This is a gorgeous vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch to a room and make a fantastic bed head.

It depicts an idyllic romantic 18th Century château garden scene inspired by the gardens of Marie Antoinette's Petit Trianon in the grounds of the palace of Versailles. All the characters are happy and relaxed and it is a joy to behold.

The garden appears to be on an island and water cascades from a fountain adorned with adorable cherubs. The garden is very beautiful with a profusion of  flowers, lush vegetation and trees. Within this bucolic scene are two young couples and a maiden with their sheep.

The colours of the tapestry are very subtle. Shades of ochre dominate the palette with hints of blue and pink in the costumes and flowers.

Around this glorious scene is sewn a border. The design of the border resembles a gilded frame entwined with beautiful roses.

The tapestry is woven in cotton and is in good vintage condition.

On the back of the top edge are metal loops for hanging purposes.

The tapestry measures :- 177 cm (5ft 9.5 inches) wide x 92 cm (3ft) high.
