B1845 - Divine Antique French Gilded Spelter Virgin Mary, Madonna, Religious Statue

This is a divine antique French statue of the Virgin Mary dating from the early 1900's. It would probably have been bought as a souvenir of a visit to Lourdes. It is made from gilded spelter and is very decorative and architectural. It would be superb as part of a religious display.

Mary stands on a splendid ecclesiastical architectural podium with 4 scrolled feet. Her hands are clasped together in prayer. She wears a lovely crown and her gown falls around her in wondrous folds.

Mary and her podium are gilded. The gilding has mellowed with the passage of time and has been applied to give a two tone appearance with the natural spelter and the resultant effect is stunning.

The statue measures :- 18.5 cm (7.25 inches) high x 6.25 cm (2.5 inches) wide x 6.25 cm (2.5 inches) deep.

This is a lovely religious piece for a contemplative niche and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
