B1852 - Fabulous Vintage French Woven Tapestry Wall Hanging - The Lady and The Unicorn 'Desire'

This is a fabulous large vintage French woven tapestry wall hanging. It is after ' À Mon Seul Désir' one of the 16th Century Lady and Unicorn tapestries in the Musée national du Moyen Âge (Cluny) in Paris. This version certainly captures the essence of the original and would look superb whether hung in a country house home or a hyper modern apartment.

The lady is in the centre of the tapestry. She stands in front of a tent across the top of which is inscribed  'À Mon Seul Désir'. Her maidservant stands to the right holding open a chest into which the lady places a necklace. To the left of the lady is a low bench with a dog. A unicorn and lion are positioned to either side of the group each holding a pennant.

The rest of the scene is covered by a myriad of millefleurs within which little animals hide. The detail is amazing and the wall hanging is a feast for the eyes.

The tapestry is woven in wool and cotton. The colours are soft pinks, blues and ochres.

The wall hanging is lined and hangs beautifully. It is in good vintage condition.

It measures :- 194 cm (6 ft 4.4 inches) wide x 145 cm (4 ft 9.1 inches ) high.
