B1899 - Divine Antique French Religious Benitier, Porcelain Plaque Virgin Mary, 19th Century

This is a divine 19th Century antique French filigree brass bénitier holding a beautiful porcelain plaque with the image of the Virgin Mary.

The filigree brass frame has a tendril leaf design and has a central cross crest. Beneath the crest is the exquisite porcelain plaque of Mary depicted in wonderful colour and detail.

Beneath Mary is the repoussé holy water stoup.

When we turn the frame over we see that there is a loop to take a ribbon, or for hanging on a wall, and that the back of the plaque is covered in a sky blue silk.

The bénitier is in good antique condition. There are one or two tiny dents to the brass but nothing to detract from the beauty of this lovely old piece.We have left the brass as we found it, gently mellowed with the passage of time but it would polish to a shiny finish if required.

The frame measures :- 18.5 cm (7.3 inches) high x 7.75 cm (3.1 inches) wide.
The porcelain image measures :- 6.75 cm (2.6 inches) x 4.4 cm (1.7 inches) wide.

This is a beautiful religious piece to display and enjoy and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
