B1105 - SOLDThis is a gorgeous antique French ormolu trinket casket dating from the 1800's. It would look superb on a dressing table and would certainly add a château chic touch to a boudoir. It is a weighty little piece and is sturdy. It stands on 4 stunning lion's feet from which acanthus leaf detail extends up the legs to culminate in a decorative loop at each corner. The casket is decorated on all 4 sides. The front has a central sunburst decoration beneath which is a flower garland swag. Both sides also have the flower garland swag and the back has the sunburst. The lid has an unusual handle in the form of a curved branch culminating in little roses. Around the handle is draped a textile with fringe, tassels and cord and could perhaps be a flag. The attention to detail is amazing! The lid lifts up on a hinge to reveal a padded & buttoned silk interior in a sublime shade of shell pink. It is trimmed with a matching passementerie. The silk has mellowed a little with the passage of time but is in good condition with no obvious wear. The ormolu has patinated a little to subtle perfection. The trinket casket measures :- 10 cm (4 inches) wide x 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) deep x 10 cm (4 inches) high. This gorgeous trinket casket is from a carefully selected collection of divine antique French decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
