B1500 - SOLD

This is a stunning antique French carved wood mount / plaque dating from the 1800's or earlier. It is full of heraldic imagery and would make an impressive historical feature on a wall.

It is shield shaped and carved from a substantial piece of heavy mahogany. The front of the shield is very finely carved with heraldic imagery. The carving is very finely executed and is of astonishing quality. Within the carving we see a monarch on a throne, trees, a tree crucifix with wolves or dogs beneath, a fleur de lys, rearing lions and a castellated tower.

On the back of the plaque are 2 loops for hanging on a wall.

We have left the plaque as we found it.  The wood would polish further if required.

It measures :- 40 cm (15.75 inches) high x 32 cm (12.5 inches) wide.

This is a substantial and decorative piece to add an authentic historical finishing touch to an interior and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
