B2157 - Fabulous Vintage French Robert Four Woven Wool 'Tapestry' Wall Hanging, Chasse

This is a fabulous vintage French, Robert Four of Aubusson, woven wall hanging dating from the mid to late 1900's. It would certainly add a fabulous château chic finishing touch to a room. 

It is of wonderful quality. The textile is a heavy woven wool & linen which hangs beautifully. The scene is entitled 'La Chasse à Courre' and is after an 18th Century tapestry. It is printed onto the wool by a silkscreen process - the colours and detail are amazing!

The scene depicts an 18th Century hunt in full swing. It is full of action with mounted huntsmen and their dogs in pursuit of the deer in the distance. All around are fabulous trees and lush vegetation. 

Around this splendour is a decorative border.

The colours are stunning shades of greens, browns and blue with highlights of red in the costumes.  

The wall hanging has a sewn pocket at the top which would take a pole or batten for hanging purposes. 

It is in good vintage condition. It has a flaw or pull in the weave about 17 cm (6.6 inches) long under the horse on the right hand side (please see photos) but this does not draw the eye. There is a little soiling in the right hand bottom corner of the back, but this, of course does not show when the wall hanging is hung. 

It measures :- 189 cm (6 ft 2.4 inches ) wide x 139 cm (4 ft 6.7 inches) high.
