B2159 - Fabulous Large Vintage French Verdure Woven Tapestry Wall Hanging, Folly & Birds

This is a fabulous large vintage French woven tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It has a bucolic rural scene and is after an 18th Century 'Verdure' Aubusson tapestry. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch and would look superb in a country house home.

The scene is dominated by a magnificent tree. To either side of the tree is an impressive folly and a waterfall which spills into a pool. All around is lush vegetation among which are birds. See the pheasants, the heron, the woodpecker and little birds in the tree. There is a château and a mountain in the background.

Around this splendour is a sewn border with a scrolled leaf design.

The colours are atmospheric subtle shades of ochre, green, teal & brown gently faded with the passage of time. 

The tapestry is finely woven in cotton. It has metal fixtures sewn on the back for hanging purposes.

It is in good vintage condition. There is just one small round mark and an adjacent tiny mark (please see photos) which do not draw the eye.

The tapestry measures :- 215 cm (7 ft 0.6 inches) wide x 168.5 cm (5 ft 6.3 inches) high.

A fantastic large tapestry wall hanging to add a château chic statement to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles and decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
