B2164 - Superb Vintage French Woven Tapestry Wall Hanging 17th Century Hunting Scene, After Detti

This is a superb vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It is woven with a 17th Century hunting scene after the Renaissance tapestry ' Chasse à courre de Detti'. It is a very atmospheric piece and would look superb in a country house home.

It depicts a stunning scene of a gathering of fabulously dressed noble men and women at a hunt. They are riding magnificent steeds and are surrounded by a plethora of trees and vegetation. Their servants control the hunting dogs.

In the background is a fabulous mountain vista and in the middle ground the hunt can be seen to be in full swing.

Around this glorious scene is a sewn border with a scrolled acanthus leaf design.

The colours have gently faded with the passage of time to subtle shades of brown and green with touches of claret in the costumes.

The tapestry has metal fixtures sewn on the back for hanging purposes. 

It measures :- 187 cm (6 ft 1.6 inches) wide x 121 cm (3 ft 1.7 inches) high.
