B571 - SOLD

This is an exquisite pair of antique French tapestry château curtains dating from the 1800's. They are full of faded grandeur and are a feast for the eyes.

The curtains are made from a heavy wool, silk and linen weave and drape superbly. The silk element in the weave also makes them very tactile. As well as looking divine they would be ideal for keeping the draughts out.

They have a gorgeous classic floral design. Within the vignettes of flowers are charming piped instruments and summer hats and hay forks. The vignettes are interlinked with glorious flower garlands.

The colours are subtle antique shades. The background is a gorgeous champagne colour and the flowers are in soft pinks and greens with a touch of pale blue.

The curtains are sewn into pleats at the top. The inner edges and hems are neatly sewn but the outer edges are not sewn - possibly because they were once bound with passementerie.

The curtains are in excellent condition and are very usable just as they are. The tapestry is all intact with no holes. There is just a little darkening to the bottom of the left hand curtain.

The linings have darkened a little with the sun which is not surprising after over a 100 years. They are intact and in our opinion do not need replacing.

Each curtain measures :- 290 cm (9 feet 6 inches) long x 121 cm (3 feet 11 inches) wide.

This is a fabulous pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic château chic statement to the grandest of homes.

Another divine period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.

Please note that the curtain rings, tie backs and pelmet are not included with the curtains.
