B1476 - Beautiful Long Panel 19th C Hand Embroidered Chinese Silk With Bird & Flowers
This is a beautiful long panel / pelmet of 19th Century hand embroidered Chinese silk with a bird & flowers. It is in very good antique condition. It is very decorative and would be divine hung in a boudoir, perhaps as a bed head.
The back ground colour is a lovely pale champagne. In the centre of the panel is a magnificent bird and around it a delicate profusion of flowers, leaves, twigs and a butterfly all expertly hand embroidered in silk.
The colours are dreamy, soft, delicate shades of shell pink, oyster, duck egg blue and pale aubergine. The combination of the subject matter and the colours is absolutely heavenly.
The pelmet has a seam across it 10 cm (4 inches) down from the top. It is lined with a very fine silk.
The panel is in good antique condition. On the bottom edge there is an immaculate repair beautifully executed in tiny stitches. This measures 7 cm x (2.75 inches) x 6 cm (2.3 inches) and next to it is a 2 cm (0.75 inch) vertical area of wear. Above the twig on the right hand side are two tiny spots of wear. Considering the age and delicacy of the textile these are very minor characteristics and do not draw the eye or detract from the beauty of this gorgeous piece.
The panel measures :- 200 cm (6 ft 6.75 inches) wide x 40 cm (15.75 inches) high.
This is a truly beautiful antique silk embroidered panel. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
