B2018 - Beautiful Antique French Moire Taffeta Pelmet, Silk Applique & Embroidery, 19th Century

This is a beautiful hand made antique French château pelmet dating from the 19th Century. It is full of timeworn charm and would add an authentic 'always been there' finishing touch to an interior.

The pelmet is made in moiré taffeta and is embellished with silk appliqué scrolls and beautiful hand embroidered flowers.

The silks of the appliqué and embroidery are in shades of pink which look very subtle against the champagne hue of the moiré background. 

The bottom of the pelmet is shaped and has a gorgeous pink fringed passementerie trim. 

The pelmet is lined with a very fine silk which shows signs of having been nibbled over the years.

The pelmet is in general sound condition. There is an appearance of fading and darkening and there are some faint watermarks on the moiré. The silk appliqué has worn a little in places (please see photos). However, after a little attention to the lining, we believe that the pelmet is ready to hang in a period home where the characteristics it has acquired over the last 100 + years will be celebrated. It has not been dry cleaned.

The pelmet measures :- W 150 cm (4 ft 11 inches) x H 53 cm (1 ft 8.8 inches) including the fringe.
