This is a superb antique French birdcage dating from the early 1900's.

Originally made to house finches this lovely birdcage would now make a stunning architectural display piece. It would look fabulous in a conservatory or an orangery.

It is an older example of it's type and is beautifully crafted from wood and wire with a distinct Moorish influence to the design.

The fabulous domed roof is intricately worked in wire. The wire is held in place with metal clips which are painted in a sublime shade of turquoise. This contrasts perfectly with the distressed white paint on the rest of the cage.

The sides of the cage bow out and also have the intricate wirework. One of the sides is hinged to allow access to the cage and is held shut with a twisted wire catch.

At the top of the cage is a hook for hanging and below this, within the dome, is a swing for the finches.

The paint on the wood of the cage has distressed to perfection to show the bleached wood beneath.

The cage is sturdy and measures :- H 70 cm (including hook) x W 38 cm x D 38 cm

A stunning birdcage to add an architectural finishing touch to a château chic interior and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
