A029 - SOLD

This is a magnificent antique French carved wood mount dating from the 19th Century.

It would probably originally have come from a church, perhaps off an alter but it would now make a stunning architectural plinth.

It is carved from mahogony rich in colour and graining. To either side of the mount are fantastic griffins with hooked beaks and feathery ears. Their chests puff out to give the mount it's shield like shape.

The top of the mount would originally have held a finial. This has long gone leaving a flat surface on which to display all manner of items in splendour.

In the centre of the mount is a fleur de lys below which fantastic leaf scrolls trail down to culminate in a heavy swag of berries, grapes and apples.

The carving has been beautifully executed to give us a stunning three dimensional architectural piece.

The mount is substantial and decorative and would add authentic château chic glamour to any home. As well as making an excellent plinth it would also be fabulous as a central point from which to hang drapes, perhaps over a bed

It measures 29.5 cm (11.5 inches) wide x 37 cm (14.5 inches) high x 14 cm (5.5 inches) deep at the top

Another divine antique French château chic find from La Belle Étoffe.
