This is a magnificent antique French brass mount dating from the 19th Century.

It may have come off a mirror or a piece of furniture but it is very heavy so it may have come off a fountain or other architectural structure. It would now be fabulous incorporated into an architectural centre piece perhaps on a ciel de lit or over a door.

It is made of brass and is cast in the most wonderful quality and detail. It features two of the most gorgeous chubby cherubs. They recline upon a fabulous swagged and draped fringed throw. They have a basket with two beautiful little birds and one of the cherubs holds another bird aloft.

The quality of the casting is such that the texture of the fabric of the throw, every strand of hair on the cherubs and every feather on the birds can be appreciated. These textured surfaces have taken on a fabulous verdigris patina which could not be replicated.

The mount is completely three dimensional and as detailed on the back as it is on the front. It could also be incorporated into something that sits in the centre of a room.

It is hollow underneath for sitting on a structure and there are two holes for fixing.

The mount is substantial and decorative and would add authentic château chic glamour to any home.

It measures 37 cm (14.5 inches) wide x 22 cm (8.75 inches) high x approx. 7 cm (2.75 inches) deep.
