B1014 - SOLD
This is the head and body of a beautiful antique French boudoir doll dating from about 1920.
The doll's head is made from a lovely fine silk crepe. The face is exquisitely hand painted. The features are accentuated with the dramatic maquillage fashionable of the time. She has finely arched eyebrows and enormous, outlined and shadowed eyes with long fluttery lashes. Her cheeks are heavily rouged and her lips are beautifully defined with bright red lipstick.
Her crowning glory however is her hair! It is made from white silk and styled in a centre parting with ringlets at the ears. The back is carefully sewn into crimped waves.
The doll's head is in fabulous condition and looks like it has never been used.
The body of the doll is made from stuffed calico and has bisque arms and legs. There are gold coloured shoes painted onto the feet and the fingers have pink nail polish. Again the body looks like it has not been used as there is still a shop ticket sewn to it.
We have left the doll as we found it. Bizarelly the arms seem to have been sewn on the wrong way round but this could easily be rectified.
The body measures :- 62 cm (24.5 inches) from the neck to the tips of the toes.
A gorgeous antique French boudoir doll to add to a collection and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
