B1032 - SOLD

This is an absolutely sublime antique French carved wood mount / pediment  dating from the 1800's. It is very architectural and would look superb on a wall or would be perfect as a central point from which to hang drapes, perhaps over a bed as a ciel de lit.

The pediment has an impressive carved acanthus leaf cup finial to either side and a central crest of carved scrolls. Under the crest are little flowers finely carved in amazing detail.

The back of the pediment is carved out into a long groove indicating that perhaps once it sat on a pole.

The pediment is beautifully water gilded on gesso.The gilding has subtle hints of the red bole base and has one or two very minor areas of distressing which just adds character to this wonderful old piece.

The pediment measures:- 43.5 cm (17.25 inches) wide x 18 cm (7 inches) high.

A superb mount / pediment to add an authentic château chic finishing touch and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
