This is a fabulous pair of antique French curtain pole finials dating from the 1800's. They are a rare find and truly would add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a curtain pole.
They are finely carved from wood and have the most fantastic water gilding. The gilding is positively luminescent and has subtle hints of the red bole base. The gilding has distressed over the years to show the white gesso beneath and the resultant effect is breathtaking.
Despite the distressing to the gilding and gesso, the wood of the finials is sturdy. One of the finials has had some worm, now long gone, and this just adds further to the authentic character of these gorgeous old pieces.
The finials have a hole in the bottom to take a dowel to attach to a pole.
Each finial measures:- 20 cm (8 inches) high x 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) wide (approx). The base plate is 6.25 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter.
A superb pair of curtain pole finials to add a château chic finishing touch and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
