This is a sublime vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It would add a stunning château chic finishing touch to a room.

It depicts a beautiful and serene 18th Century country scene. The setting is idyllic and is based on the gardens of Marie Antoinette's Petit Trianon in the grounds of the Palace of Versailles.  All the characters are happy and relaxed, and it is a joy to look at.

In the background is the château on the bank of the lake. In the foreground is a sweet tableau of a mother and her little daughter with their 3 sheep. A pretty young maiden has been fetching water from a well. She leans against her pitcher with her hand on her hip. A young man, possibly her beau is watering his horse at the edge of the river.

All is happy and serene. The trees and vegetation are lush and abundant and there is a profusion of flowers. The colour palette is dominated by the greens of the vegetation against which the pinks and blues of the costumes and flowers contrast perfectly.

Around all this is a gorgeous sewn border with a plethora of roses.

The tapestry is made of wool and linen and is in excellent vintage condition There are 5 tabs at the top for hanging on a pole. The reverse of the tapestry is lined.

The wall hanging measures :- 106 cm (3ft 5.5 inches) wide x 63 cm (2ft 1 inches) high (including the tabs).
