This is a gorgeous antique French ciel de lit, bed  canopy / couronne dating from the 19th Century. It would certainly add an authentic château chic statement to a boudoir.

It has a gilded repoussé metal frame with twisted ribbon detail. In the centre is a beautiful ormolu laurel leaf and bow crest. To either side of this is an ormolu acanthus leaf embellishment.

The ormolu crest is cast in exquisite detail and the gilding has a lovely antique hue. The gilding on the repoussé metal catches the light with a stunning buttery sheen. Both the ormolu and repoussé have areas of verdigris which just adds character to this divine old piece.

Wthin the metal frame is a wooden frame and it is to this that the drapes would be attached. We have left the ciel de lit as we found it and some of the old textile is still attached. There are 2 metal loops for attaching to a wall and a hook and a metal loop for support purposes.

The ciel de lit is sturdy. Because it is made of repoussé it is actually quite light and therefore easy to hang.

It measures :- W 73 cm (2 ft 4.75 inches) x D 30 cm (11.75 inches) x H 16 cm (6.25 inches).

This is a divine bed canopy to add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a boudoir and another fabulous antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
