This is a gorgeous antique French repoussé bon bon dish dating from the 1800's.
It would be perfect filled with sweets on a side table or would be divine for jewellery and trinkets on a dressing table.
The exterior is made of silvered repoussé and is incredibly decorative. The bowl of the dish has an elaborate swagged fruit garland design and is pierced to show the blue glass of the interior. The handles of the bowl are scrolled and each has a griffin head crest and is supported by a single griffin foot. There are two other feet, each featuring the most charming winged cherub.
The lid is also finely detailed with a border and an inner scrolled and curled design. See the little face with the shell crest. There is an elaborate finial to the centre of the lid.
The lid lifts off to reveal the lovely blue glass interior. This lifts out so we can appreciate the beauty of the gorgeous old glass which is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
The silvering on the repoussé has mellowed over the years which just adds to the faded grandeur look of this lovely old piece.
It measures :- H 16 cm (6.25 inches) x W 22 cm (8.5 inches) x D 12 cm (4.75 inches).
A gorgeous bon bon dish to add a château chic finishing touch and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
