B1062 - SOLD

This is a stunning vintage French wall hanging. It has a 'tapestry' design after 'Les Vendanges' of the Cluny Museum in Paris, printed on linen. The original 'Les Vendanges' tapestry was completed in the first quarter of the 16th Century. This version certainly captures the essence of the original and would look superb whether hung in a country house home or a hyper modern apartment.

The design is incredibly detailed. It shows the stages of wine making, from the picking of the grapes to pressing and the first tasting of the wine - a process not differing too much today from this medieval scene. The scene takes place in a vineyard with a background of millefleurs. The atmosphere is very relaxed, with the nobility rubbing shoulders with the peasants.

The design is beautifully printed to capture the detail of the original tapestry. The colours are a stunning combination of deep pink, teal and ochres.

The wall hanging has a hessian lining, is nice and heavy and hangs perfectly. We have hung it on clips (not included) but rings could be sewn on the back for hanging purposes.

It is in good vintage condition with just a little fading at the top. There are some holes in the perimeter of the lining & the hem of the linen where it has been previously fixed (please see photos) but these do not show through to the front of the linen.

The wall hanging measures :- 179 cm (5 ft 10.5 inches) wide x 98 cm (3 ft 2.5 inches ) high.

A fantastic large wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room and another divine vintage French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
