This is a fabulous antique French glass casket dating from the 1800's. It would be perfect for displaying trinkets, perhaps in a shop window and would certainly add a château chic touch to a boudoir.
The casket is in the shape of an armoire and has a gorgeous ormolu bow crest and stands on decorative ormolu acanthus leaf feet. There is heavy bevelled glass to 4 sides. The glass door has a firm scrolled clasp.
Inside the armoire are 2 glass shelves. The back and base are covered in padded & buttoned silk in a sublime shade of grey/lilac. The silk has worn a little with the passage of time but this does not detract from this divine old piece.
The armoire casket is sturdy. The gilding on the ormolu is bright and beautiful, the hinge good and strong. There is a tiny nibble to the glass in each of the top corners of the door but all is safe & secure.
It measures :- 28 cm (11 inches) high to the top of the crest x 13.25 cm (5.25 inches) wide x 10 cm (4 inches) deep.
A sublime glass casket to use and treasure and another superb antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
N.B. The three little bows we have used for display purposes are picture hook covers and will be listed in our other items.
