This is a stunning antique French gilded spelter church cross / crucifix dating from the 1800's. It would originally have stood on a church altar and would now make a stylish architectural addition to a château chic interior.

The cross stands on a decorative base with 4 sturdy feet. The base is extensively decorated with scrolls and acanthus leaves.  The cross itself  and the figure of Christ are finely detailed. The cross has flaming tips and above the figure are the letters INRI.

It is, however, the prescence of two spiked candle holders at the base of the cross that make this piece exceptional. The candles look sublime with the cross and set the atmosphere for both personal worship or aesthetic effect.

The cross is sturdy and in good condition. The gilding has mellowed over the years to a dark old gold hue.

The cross measures :- 44 cm (17.25 inches) high x 18 cm (7 inches) wide x 12.5 cm (5 inches) deep.

Whether placed on a simple country buffet or a grand enfilade this gorgeous altar cross will look stunning. Another fabuous antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
